Culture

The UAE culture mostly revolves around the the Islamic religion and traditional arab culture. The lifestyle of the Islamic religion are very different and they take good pride in their country for instance the architectures, food, music and their prayers. The traditional music is played in every mall or small shop the music is played very loud and is very calm and relaxing. They get called to prayer at the mosques five times a day. These mosques are in very good condition and scattered around the country.

Their are three main major events in Dubai these include Eid al Fitr this is the celebration at the end of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar and is celebrated by fasting for one month. National Day is also important day because it marks the formation of United Arab Emirates is held on the 2nd of December.



Food- Arabic food is very popular all over Dubai and is available everywhere in city. Fast food, Asian and Chinese cuisines are also very popular in a wide variety. the sale of pork in Dubai is unavailable if your a Muslim and is designated in a certain place in the shop if you are non-Muslim the pork is available to you. The same goes to alcohol , you need a liquor permit card in order to buy alcohol. In hotels and bars alcohol is available to all. Most nightclubs are in hotels due to the permit for alcohol allowance.





Entertainment- Hollywood and indian movies are the most popular movies in the UAE. In 2004 Dubai hosted a Dubai International Film Festival this has been successful every year since then. Musicians such as Elton john, Pink, Aerosmith, Shakira, Justin Bieber, Selena gomez & Coldplay have played at this festival. In 2008 November 20 was the grand opening of the Atlantis Resort which kylie Minogue payed $3.5m to perform at the opening. The largest cinema hall in the UAE is reel cinemas located in the Dubai mall with 22 screens which can fit 2800 people.



Sport- Football and cricket are the most popular sports in Dubai. Five teams, Al Wasl FC , Al-Ahli Dubai, Al Nasr SC, Al Shabab al arabi club and Dubai club. These teams are all represented at the Dubai UAE pro-league. The Dubai World cup and Horseracing is held at the Meydan racecourse. The Dubai rugby union is held at the Dubai sevens stadium.

                                                 Climate

Dubai is a hot weathered country, especially in the summer months June, July and August. This time of the year is unbearable for many tourists as you can not go outside during the day. The humidity level is very high.




In the summer the highest temperature reaches between 45-50 degrees. January is the coldest month of the year with the highest of 25 degrees.




                                         Transport

Road- Their are 5 main routes in Dubai, sheikh zayed road , sheikh mohammed bin zayed road, Dubai-hatta highway, Dubai-al habab road and oud metha road. These roads connect the city to other towns and emirates.


The public bus in Dubai is run by the RTA. the bus system in Dubai serves 140 routes , in 2001 the bus system transported over 109 million. In 2006 newly built bus stops were put into place with shelter and air conditioning. This structure was made to encourage people across the emirates to take the bus routes.


Dubai taxis are licensed by RTA. The taxis are easily definable because of there cream coloured body and green, blue,  yellow and red roofs. this process makes it easier for tourists to identify the difference between residence cars and taxis. Dubai also has a pink taxi which is most preferred by many women over there as there are ladies driving and the appearance is much nicer.


Air- Dubai international airport is one of the top 5 busiest/biggest airports in the world this is due to the airlines, fly Dubai which travel from different cities the UAE and Emirates which travels to 164 destinations and 78 countries from its HQ in Dubai.


Palm Jumeriah Monorail- the Monorail connects the palm to the mainland this
gives tourists an opportunity to visit the palm and allows them to travel to atlantis waterpark
more accessibly if you don't know your way around.

                                    Dubai geography 

Dubai is located in the on the northeast of the United Arab Emirates. Dubai is the second largest emirate with an urban area of 3885 square km. Dubai has three new upcoming projects the world , the universe and Dubai land. Two of these projects are going to be made on the sea beside the palm, Jumeirah.


Dubai is well known for its amazing skyscraper the Burj Khalifa. This building is the tallest building in the world with 163 floors , properties ,offices and more. Dubai mall is located beside the burj khalifa this mall is the largest mall in the world with 1,200 shops of all kinds to explore in. The amazing architecture outside Dubai mall and the Burj khalifa is outstanding the fountains last for about 10 mins and play every half an hour to beautiful background music this development gets over 1000 views per day.

My name is Annalin. I will be writing a blog on Dubai simply because my dad and brother live over there and I go over and visit them a few times a year and I am very interested In how fast they get the work done in such hot weather another reason I chose this topic for my blog because I think this country is an amazing country I really enjoy going over for my holidays every year.
